GUARD Action Alert: Possible C&DD Landfill Moratorium

If you have a few moments to spare in the next few days, please contact the Governor about a potential statewide moratorium on C&DD Landfills in Ohio. It's very important that this moratorium be enacted as it will cover the same type of landfill that we currently have on the south side of Girard and the proposed landfill that we are fighting against on the north side.

Please contact Governor Ted Strickland and let him know how important it is to enact the statewide moratorium on C&DD dumps by calling 614-644-4357 or go to the web site below:

http://www.governor.ohio.gov/Assistance/ContacttheGovernor/tabid/150/Default.aspx

It is important to explain your personal feelings and experiences on how the local landfills located close to you have been harmful. For example, a friend of mine who lives next to the LaFarge Landfill in Lordstown is constantly cleaning black mold from the siding of his house. And the citizens of Girard close to the south side landfill are constantly affected by airborne dust and debris. Some folks have been bothered by the rotten egg odor caused by Hydrogen Sulfide gas generated by wet drywall.

You may also contact the Ohio EPA; the person there who would be most interested in citizens comments is Scott Heidenreich, Environmental Manager for the Division of Solid and Industrial and Waste Management (DSIWM). His e-mail address is: scott.heidenreich@epa.state.oh.us . Also send a copy of your e-mail to our local Trumbull County Contact at DSIWM who is Katharina Snyder at: katharina.snyder@epa.state.oh.us .

IMPORTANT HEARINGS REGARDING PROPOSED NORTH SIDE DUMP!

There are important hearings coming up next week in Columbus on January 19, 20th & 21st regarding Girard's proposed north side C&DD Landfill. We are encouraging any members who are able to attend do so as this will help show the Environmental Review Appeals Commission (ERAC) that there is opposition to the proposed north side landfill. Contact Richard Natoli at dndnatoli@sbcglobal.net or 330-545-4576 for more information about the hearings if you would like to attend.

We CAN make a bigger difference if we work together on this; please share this message with your friends and family members.
